What the Feldenkrais Method is
(and isn't)

The Feldenkrais Method is not physiotherapy, chiropractic care, or a form of exercise in the conventional sense. It does not involve stretching or strengthening muscles, and it doesn’t aim to treat symptoms in isolation.

Instead, it’s an educational method based on the principles of neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to change and adapt throughout life. Through gentle, mindful movement explorations, you begin to sense your patterns, notice inefficiencies, and discover new, more effective ways of moving.

The lessons are deceptively simple: lie on the floor, move slowly, pay attention. But don’t be fooled by the simplicity. This work goes deep. You may begin to notice how you brace unnecessarily, how you breathe, how you hold your shoulders in response to stress, or how you’ve organized your entire self around a past injury or emotional trauma. In becoming aware of these patterns, you create the possibility of choice—and that is the beginning of transformation.

What to expect in your first session?

1. A Conversation to Begin
We start with a relaxed conversation about what brings you here. You might want relief from discomfort, support for recovery, or to refine your performance in work, sport, or music. You’ll also have the opportunity to share any relevant medical history and what you’d like to experience more easily in your daily life. This gives us a clear sense of direction for the session.

2. Introducing the Feldenkrais Method®
If it’s your first time, I’ll explain the essence of the Feldenkrais Method in straightforward terms. It’s not about stretching, strengthening, or correcting. Instead, it’s a process of learning — exploring how your body can move with greater ease, efficiency, and awareness. With this understanding, you can simply relax into the session.

3. Table Work and Exploration
You’ll then lie, fully clothed, on a low, padded table. I guide your body through gentle, precise movements that highlight the patterns you currently use and offer new possibilities. Along the way, you may be invited to notice subtle shifts in comfort, balance, or breathing. The work is never forceful — it’s calm, supportive, and often deeply restful, yet at the same time awakens your capacity for change.

4. Noticing What Has Changed
As the session unfolds, many people begin to sense differences — perhaps walking feels lighter, posture easier, or movements more fluid. These discoveries may be subtle at first, but they often bring a refreshing sense of clarity and possibility.

5. Closing the Session
We finish with a short conversation about what you noticed and how you might continue exploring these changes in daily life. Each session is unique, but even from the first one you
may walk away with a new sense of freedom, ease, and confidence in how you move.
