About

Alistair Greenwood

Feldenkrais Practitioner

I bring a rich, multidimensional background to the Feldenkrais Method—one rooted in music, education, lived experience with pain, and an unwavering commitment to personal transformation. With a Master’s degree in music and a professional career as a flautist, I understand the high demands placed on the human body in performance settings. Years spent teaching at the tertiary level have also shaped a strong educational foundation, making me a skilled communicator and a deeply empathetic guide in learning processes.

My journey into the Feldenkrais Method was not purely academic—it was personal. Diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis as a child, I know firsthand what it means to live with chronic pain and the disempowerment that can come from feeling disconnected from your body. These experiences cultivated a lifelong curiosity about movement, healing, and the incredible adaptability of the human nervous system.

Today, I combine scientific insight, embodied empathy, and a refreshingly honest approach to help clients feel safe, seen, and inspired to change. My ethos is built on trust, education, and shared exploration. I don’t believe in miracle fixes or trendy wellness hacks. Instead, I offer something far more powerful: a supportive learning environment where people can show up exactly as they are, begin to sense their bodies more clearly, and make meaningful shifts over time.

My personal mantra—come as you are—runs through every session I teach. Clients often describe me as grounded, perceptive, and real. I don’t preach; I partner. I don’t claim to have all the answers; instead, I hold space for others to discover their own.

When I’m not teaching Feldenkrais, you’ll find me training at the gym, exploring the world of food and wine, or investing in my own well-being—because I believe that practitioners should live what they teach. My philosophy is simple but profound: excellence is never an accident, and neither is health.

I envision a future where Western medicine shifts from being an ambulance at the bottom of the cliff to becoming an educational institution—one that empowers individuals to know, trust, and care for their bodies. Through the Feldenkrais Method, I invite people to reclaim ownership of their lives—not by aiming for some ideal outcome, but by embracing a new way of being.

This is not a path of correction or perfection. It’s a path of discovery—and I’m honoured to walk it with you.

A Legacy of Innovation:
Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais (1904–1984) was a remarkable individual whose diverse background laid the foundation for this work. A physicist and engineer by training, he held a black belt in judo and had a deep curiosity about human behavior. When faced with a debilitating knee injury and the prospect of surgery with poor odds of success, Feldenkrais chose a different path. He began to study his own movements meticulously, experimenting with how tiny variations could produce different outcomes.
His insights led him to develop a new framework for learning—not based on correction, force, or repetition, but on awareness, curiosity, and organic exploration. He recognized that the way we move reflects how we think and feel. Therefore, changing how we move can also change how we perceive ourselves and our place in the world.

Feldenkrais taught that “awareness of movement is the key to learning.” He saw his work not as therapy but as education: a process of restoring each person’s ability to learn, adapt, and thrive. Today, thousands of practitioners around the world continue his legacy, helping people reconnect with their bodies and reawaken their capacity for growth.
